Mira (“meera”) Roxanne Baker has been a vocal coach since 2008, instructing students she met during her years of competing in talent competitions and pageants. Although she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Georgetown College, her #1 passion is music education.
She began taking formal voice and piano lessons at age 5, and later studied classical flute. She was a Vocal Major at the School for the Creative and Performing Arts in Lexington, KY, where she also studied music theory and performed in a jazz ensemble and theatre productions.
During her years of competing in the Miss America Organization, Mira’s platform was Arts Education, for which she volunteered at schools and events throughout KY, advocating for the arts.
Mira also had the opportunity to work with a former assistant of Bob Fosse while competing in the Coca-Cola Talent Classic Competition, where she won 1st Place Sweepstakes for her jazz vocal performance.
Mira has performed a variety of genres at many venues throughout the nation, including:
– America’s Most Talented Kids – National TV show, filmed in Hollywood, CA
– Miss Kentucky Organization – Top 13 Finalist, “Quality of Life” Award Finalist
– Showtime at the Apollo On Tour – Cincinnati, OH
– Political, sporting, and charity events National Anthem singer
Most recently, Mira co-wrote and recorded a pop-country album with Grammy-nominated Kent Wells Productions (Dolly Parton’s producer) in Nashville, TN.
Mira is excited to join DAMPA in helping students find a life-long love for their art(s) of choice. Based on first-hand experience, she believes arts education enriches every facet of a student’s life.
