Weather & Emergency Closures
How Closure Decisions Are Made
DAMPA occasionally closes for severe weather — ice, snow, flooding, or dangerous road conditions — or for an emergency such as a power outage, a water or utility failure, or a safety situation on or near campus. Decisions are made by the directors with the safety of students, families, and faculty as the only consideration. We generally look to Dallas-area road conditions and to local school district closures as a guide, but we do not automatically follow any one district; our campus draws families from across the metroplex, and we make the call for our own campus.
We try to decide as early in the day as possible, and to announce a closure at least two hours before the first affected lesson whenever conditions allow.
How You Will Be Notified
When we close, we notify families by text message and email using the contact information on your account. We also post the closure on our website and social media. Please make sure the front desk has a current mobile number and email address so you receive these notices.
If you are ever unsure whether we are open, call or text (833) 281-2690 or email makemusic@dallasacademyofmusic.com before you travel.
Makeups and Credits When DAMPA Closes
If DAMPA closes and your lesson cannot be held, we will work with you to schedule a makeup lesson based on teacher availability. If no makeup time can be found, a Makeup Credit is issued for use within two months, consistent with our Cancellations, Makeups & Credits policy. Group classes cancelled for a closure receive a credit toward the following month.
You are never charged extra for a closure, and closures are not counted against the same-day cancellations allowed in our illness policy.
When DAMPA Is Open and You Cannot Travel Safely
Please use your own judgment about road conditions. If we are open but you do not feel it is safe to travel, treat it as a normal cancellation: notify us at least 24 hours in advance where possible so the lesson is eligible for a makeup. Same-day weather cancellations when the school is open follow our regular cancellation policy.
Online Lesson Option
When weather is the issue but the teacher and student are both able to connect from home, we may offer the lesson online instead of cancelling it. If an online lesson is available, the front desk will offer it to you; taking it is always your choice, and declining it leaves your normal cancellation and makeup rights unchanged.
Performances and Productions
Recitals, showcases, and production rehearsals or performances affected by weather are rescheduled when possible. If an event cannot be rescheduled, the front desk will contact registered families directly about credits.
