Refund Policy
The Short Version
DAMPA reserves teacher time in advance, which is why tuition is paid before lessons are given and is generally not refundable. When something goes wrong on our side, we make it right with a makeup lesson or an account credit rather than a refund. This page brings together, in one place, what our other policies say.
Monthly Tuition
Monthly tuition is non-refundable. Because we operate month-to-month, the way to stop charges is to withdraw: complete a withdrawal form and return it to the front desk by the 15th day of the student's final month. If a withdrawal form is not submitted, billing continues regardless of attendance. Refunds and prorated tuition are not provided for a partial month, and unused lessons in a month are not refunded.
Missed Lessons, Makeups, and Credits
Missed lessons are handled with makeups and credits, not refunds.
- With at least 24 hours' notice, we will work with you to schedule a makeup based on teacher availability. If no makeup time can be found, a Makeup Credit is issued, valid for two months.
- Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice are "No Shows" and are not eligible for a makeup.
- If a teacher cancels and no makeup time can be found, the lesson is eligible for a credit — a single-lesson discount on the next month's bill.
- Late arrival does not create a makeup or a tuition deduction.
Makeup credits are credits, not refunds, and they expire two months after they are issued.
Enrollment and Registration Fees
The enrollment fee charged at registration is non-refundable. Workshop and event registration fees are non-refundable. These fees cover placement, scheduling, and setup work that has already been done.
Group Classes
Group classes are non-refundable. If DAMPA cancels a group class because it did not meet its minimum enrollment, you receive an account credit that can be applied to other DAMPA services. If a teacher cancels a session, a credit is applied toward the next month. No makeups are offered for individually missed group classes.
Productions and Musical Theatre
- The audition deposit is non-refundable. If the student is offered a role and participates, the deposit is applied to the total tuition.
- If a student pays production tuition in full and later needs to withdraw from the production for any reason, a prorated portion of the tuition — not including the audition deposit — is issued as an account credit, calculated on the number of rehearsals and time in the program before withdrawal.
- Production account credits can be applied toward future classes, lessons, or productions at DAMPA.
Fees Already Incurred
Charges for things already provided or ordered on your behalf are non-refundable. This includes sheet music, lesson books, and materials; the $10.00 Failed Card Fee; and recital, performance, and event fees once the deadline for that event has passed.
How Credits Work
Credits are applied to your DAMPA account and can be used toward lessons, classes, productions, and other DAMPA services. Credits are not paid out in cash, are not transferable outside your family account, and are not converted to refunds. Makeup Credits carry their own two-month expiration.
When DAMPA Closes or Cancels
If DAMPA closes and your lesson cannot be held, we will work with you to schedule a makeup lesson based on teacher availability. If no makeup time can be found, a Makeup Credit is issued for use within two months, consistent with our Cancellations, Makeups & Credits policy. Group classes cancelled for a closure receive a credit toward the following month.
You are never charged extra for a closure, and closures are not counted against the same-day cancellations allowed in our illness policy. See Weather & Emergency Closures for additional details.
If Something Doesn't Seem Right
Billing errors and duplicate charges are corrected, and a genuine error on our part is refunded to the original payment method through our payment processor. If you think you were charged in error, contact the front desk at (833) 281-2690 or makemusic@dallasacademyofmusic.com and we will look into it.
Requests that fall outside this policy are considered case by case by a director. A director may approve an exception in writing; nothing on this page prevents us from doing right by a family in an unusual situation.
