Cancellations, Makeups & Credits
Cancellations and Makeup Lessons
We require a minimum 24-hour notice for cancellations, by phone, text, or email at makemusic@dallasacademyofmusic.com. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice are considered "No Shows" and aren't eligible for makeup lessons. With proper 24-hour notification, we will work with you to schedule a makeup lesson based on teacher availability. If no makeup time is available, a "Makeup Credit" is issued for use within two months. If an admin has contacted you about scheduling a makeup and does not receive confirmation of availability, the makeup will not be scheduled until confirmation is received.
Illness
The academy follows public school district illness policies. Students absent from school due to illness cannot attend DAMPA lessons that day. To return to lessons or classes, we ask that the child be free of symptoms for 24 hours. DAMPA allows up to two same-day cancellations for unexpected sickness per year, applied as a "Makeup Credit." After the third sick call-out, a director meeting is scheduled to develop solutions.
Crediting Lessons
If a teacher cancels your lesson and no makeup time can be found, your lesson will be eligible for a credit. Credits represent a single-lesson discount on the next month's bill and require an explicit request and attempted makeup coordination. After a third instance of crediting due to scheduling issues, a meeting will be scheduled with the director, teacher, and student.
Late Arrival
If you arrive late, your instructor will do their best to work within the remaining time. The lesson won't extend beyond its scheduled time. No make-ups or tuition deductions apply for tardiness. Teachers are not required to stay on campus past fifteen minutes of a missed lesson time.
Summer Vacation
DAMPA is open year-round and does not close during the summer. Students who withdraw for the summer cannot be guaranteed the same fall time slot. Makeups, subleasing, extended-absence discounts, and Zoom lesson options are available if you cannot attend routine weekly lessons.
Private Lesson Billing Calendar
Lessons follow the published calendar with a consistent weekly appointment time, billed monthly for four lessons. There are no additional charges for months that have a fifth weekly lesson. Make-up lessons are not offered for lessons that fall on a holiday-based school closure, since some months include an extra fifth lesson. Permanent schedule changes require office contact and are limited to three times yearly.
Group Classes
Group classes must meet their minimum student enrollment to continue on the schedule. Low-enrollment cancellations result in credits applicable to other services. No make-ups are offered for missed group classes. Group classes are not prorated for late admission. Teacher-cancelled classes receive credits toward the next month. Group classes are non-refundable.
Performances
Performance opportunities are available for all students with advance preparation. Dates for all events are posted in advance on our website. Students register via forms with deadlines from teachers or administration. We encourage all students, regardless of experience level, to participate in our popular performance events. Families should stay for entire events as a courtesy to performers. If you are unable to stay for the duration of the performance or the block your student is assigned to, please let the front desk know ahead of time.
